About the role 

We are looking for an interdisciplinary computational materials scientist who has a keen interest in high performance computing and lead on this area of MatNex’s capabilities.  You will play a crucial role in enhancing our materials modelling suite to predict the properties of promising classes of novel materials, and performing detailed atomistic modelling of candidate systems.

Responsibilities 

To accelerate our material discovery process we are looking for a talented UI developer to support our team of scientist better leverage our platform in making ground-breaking scientific discoveries.

You will play a pivotal role in the business, driving the implementation of design thinking, new feature development as well as the look and feel of the company brand.  You will report into our full-stack developer and platform lead, whilst working closely with our CEO, CTO and Chief Scientist in building the interfaces for a powerful platform.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual from a design background to join a company on the forefront of scientific discoveries.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement design roadmap (established by consulting product designer)

  • Maintain the continuous development of new features

  • Creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps to communicate interaction and design ideas effectively

  • Long-term assessment of user experience, gathering feedback from our team of scientist and scientific developers to iteratively improve platform functionality

  • Own implementation of marketing material re-design, including website and other company materials

About you

We are looking for talented and, more importantly, passionate individuals who are motivated by the application of science and innovation to achieve net-zero materials. 

You will likely have:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in UI design and implementation

  • Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript

  • Some experience working with Next.js or other React web application frameworks

  • Fluency with wireframing and prototyping, using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, etc.

  • Excellent visual design skills and strong grasp of design principles, you will also be enthusiastic about applying this talent in a broad range of scenarios across the business

  • Experience with UX concepts and are comfortable conducting user research and feature testing with technical teams/users

  • Ambition to drive workstreams independently, working with a wide range of stakeholders

  • Interest in science, deep-tech and its ability to impact the world

Two stage interview process

o   Initial “get to know” call with Full-Stack Developer, Andrew Reza and Head of Operations, Luxia Broadbent

o   1 hour in-person interview at our London offices with broader team including CTO, Robert Forrest and CCO, Nic Stirk

Successful candidates will need to complete:

o   Belbin teams role profile (personality profile of which you’ll receive a full report) 

o   References from two separate employers 

o   DBS check
